Supporting Vilborg to the South Pole
Like many Icelanders North Sailing follows in awe as Vilborg Arna Gissurardóttir takes on the South Pole. Her journey started on 20 November and she estimates that it will take her 50 days to reach the Pole. This is in fact her second expedition this year, but last spring Vilborg crossed the Greenland glacier.
North Sailing proudly supports this brave young woman, but Vilborg has actually done various jobs for the company throughout the years. For instance, she organised and managed the Sail Húsavík festival in 2011 and has been involved in developing the Greenland tours. Her experience will be priceless when she’ll guide some of the Greenland tours for North Sailing next year.
Vilborg’s heroic journey can be followed on the webpage www.lifsspor.is where she gives updates each day, both in Icelandic and English.
Below you can also watch an amazing video from a tour to Greenland when the crew on Schooner Hildur, including Vilborg, spotted a polar bear. In the video her excitement is easily heard as well as the cameraman, Martin, when he asks people to pick up a camera and take a photo. It did not cross anyone’s mind to ask for a weapon.
