What a beautiful day!!!
Today was one of these days that could not have been any better for whale watching.
The sun was shining, the sea was really flat and the mountains with the snow on top looked very beautiful when we headed out this morning.
It didn’t take long until we spotted several minke whales in the middle of the bay and while we enjoyed some close-up looks at the minkes, we already saw powerful blows in the distance, a bit further west: Humpback whales!
We went to the area where we spotted the blows and were soon in the middle of a group of humpback whales. There were four humpback whales quite close to the boat and we got a really good look at them, but there were humpback whales blowing almost everywhere in the bay – absolutely incredible!
The afternoon tour was also absolutely amazing! Still Humpback Whales blowing everywhere, there must have been at least 10-15 humpbacks in the bay today, as well as 5-6 minke whales. Combined with the beautiful autumn weather and the calm sea conditions it was a really enjoyable day out in Skjálfandi Bay.
Fingers crossed that it will stay like this for a while! 🙂
