Breaching Humpbacks and Bottlenose Whales!
I went on 3 trips today at 10:00, 13:30 and 18:30. Needless to say you feel tired at the end of the day but it’s a nice feeling of tiredness. It would probably feel very different if I spent this time at the office.
On the first two trips we saw up to 6 Humpback Whales and several White Beaked Dolphins. The Humpbacks came close to the boat and one of them breached in only about 20 metres distance! The dolphins were in a very social mood, swimming under the boat and bow-riding. Absolutely wonderful.
The 18:30 trip was special. There were rather few passengers and the sea was getting a little more rough and a fog rolling in. I wasn’t especially optimistic but I know from experience that a good whale-watching can also take place in bad weather. One of my best trips ever was actually in a shroud of fog!
We saw the Humpbacks and the Dolphins again but they were in a more quiet mood now. It was on our way home that the highlight of the day appeared: 4 Northern Bottlenose Whales breached very close to the boat and we got a very good look at those magnificent animals. I was thrilled since I had for a long time hoped to see them up close but I have always had to be content with watching them from afar.
A great day indeed!
