Woohoo: Minkes and Humpbacks!
I must say that I, and I guess I speak for the rest of the guides (and even the captains too) have been too well accustomed this summer. In July, we all got used to having around 15 to 20 Humback whales around in the bay, seeing a spout or a fluke in a distance, pretty much everywhere we looked.
But, then something changed. The conditions in the bay were not the same for the whales, that we could tell. All the Humpbacks left the bay and even the Minke whales too!
Needless to say, we felt a little despair. For about five or six days we did see the White Beaked Dolphins and sometimes the Northern Bottlenose whales. In some tours we did not success at all! But that’s exactly how it is with nature.
And that’s excactly what we should always remember. The nature gives us no guarantee. And I guess nothing lasts forever..
So.. I was extremely happy seeing a Minke whale (and some White Beaked Dolphins and Harbor Porpoises) on the 10:00 tour today – and heading a bit further north on the 13:30 tour to meet with the Humpbacks!
Looking forward to find out what nature has to offer tomorrow,
Huld, guide
