A sleeping humpback whale
The weather conditions were fantastic when we left the harbour this morning: The sun was shining (we had up to 21°C in Húsavík today), the sea was calm, and our crew was optimistic that it would be a good tour….and we were right!
It started with a humpback whale that was spotted not far from Húsavík. We spent some time with this whale, before we decided to head further west, towards the mountains. While sailing west, we saw a blow further north, on our right hand side, and we decided to take a look…..and it payed off! We soon realized that this humpback whale was really calm at the surface, not moving at all. As we got closer we found out that his whale was probably sleeping, something we really don’t see every day! We got to see this sleeping whale really close-up, right next to the boat for a while and everybody on board could see how big humpback whales really are as it was possible to see the complete whale right underneath the surface.
After this amazing encounter we went further out and were rewarded with one minke whale and another humpback whale.
