Blue whales in Ólafsfjörður and Northern bottlenosed whales in Húsavík

Apart from the usual suspects this was a great day for whale watching both in Skjálfandi bay (Húsavík) and Eyjafjörður (Ólafsfjörður).  Northern bottlenosed whales were spotted in Skjálfandi bay and now two blue whales turned up just outside Ólafsfjörður and entertained 18 lucky passengers who had just been watching several humpback whales when the huge strokes from the blue whales cought captain’s Kristján attention.  The blue whales were unusually calm and came up many times right next to the boat.  One of them, probably a fully grown animal was almost twice the length of Knörrinn which is 15 meters long.
