Humpback whales and White beaked dolphins
11.07.2012
Today me and captain Gylfi went out on Garðar at 10 o’clock and at 13:30. Both of the tours were very successful and the weather was amazing, calm and sunny. In the first tour it didn’t take long until we spotted some White beak dolphins. Later we found four nice Humpback whales in the west by the mountains and we did spend quiet a long time with them, especially with one of them which was extremely calm, almost sleeping on the surface.
In the 13.30 tour we didn’t see any dolphins but we got a wonderful Humpback show at the same place as in the morning tour, by the mountain. On the way back, right before we reached the harbor of Húsavík, we found three calm Humpbacks swimming side by side along with the boat. It was an amazing end of a good tour when the three of them lifted their fluke at the same time, side by side.
The bay was as well full with birds today, f.eks. Puffins, Arctic terns, Seagulls and the Great skua.
