Amazing blue whale encounters!!!

We went out in beautiful weather conditions this morning onboard our biggest boat “Garðar” and set the course north-west, into an area where we had seen some whale during the last couple of days.

To make it short: It was an amazing tour!!! In total we spotted a big number of minke whales (probably around 10) feeding among hundreds of seabirds close to the mountains, two humpback whales and two blue whales.

One of the blue whales was absolutely incredible! It came up right next to our boat several times and on one occasion, it even surfaced just a few metres right in front of us. It was absolutely breathtaking for both passengers and crew to see the biggest animal on the planet so close-up!

On the way back, whale expert Mark Carwardine, who joined us on this trip, gave us some more information about the enormous size of the blue whales, while everybody enjoyed a nice cup of hot chocolate.
