Big feeding frenzy!!!
On a day like this I love the job as a whale-watching guide!!! During both tours we had absolutely beaufitul weather conditions (flat sea, sun, and up to 18°C), and we were able to watch some big feeding frenzies today.
Close to the “Fish Rock” (which is located on the western side of the bay, close to the mountains) we saw hundreds of seabirds (mainly arctic terns and kittiwakes) and in between all these birds we had several humpback and minke whales surfacing. Quite often the whales were also “lunge-feeding”, that means they were seen rolling on the side and taking a big mouth full of food.
We watched this amazing spectacle on both tours and on the afternoon tour we even spent some time with a nice group of white-beaked dolphins, just minutes before we arrived back in Húsavík harbour.
All in all an absolutely amazing day. Following are some pictures that were taken during the afternoon tour.
