Humpback whale day in Skjálfandi Bay
The humpback whales are still playing the main role here in the bay these days.
On the morning tour we set the course towards the area where we had seen several humpbacks during the last days and it didn’t take us long to spot the first blow. It was actually much further south than yesterday, but it was one of the humpback whales that we had seen swimming together yesterday. We stayed with the whale for a while and while watching it, we already spotted another humpback further away. So we left “our” humpback and took a look at the other one and after watching also this humpback surfacing a few times, we went closer to the mountains in hope to find more animals. We were rewarded with a third humpback whale, a well-known individual that has been here in the bay the last two weeks and that was also seen and photographed here last year.
In the afternoon we found two of these three humpback whales again.
Fingers crossed that the humpbacks will stay in the area ;-).
