The Humpbacks are back!
We left the harbour this morning full of hope to find the minke whale from yesterday again, but even though we were scanning the area very carefully, we were not rewarded. We saw several harbour porpoises, the smallest whales in the North Atlantic, and after searching a very big area, we were finally rewarded with two humpback whales in the southern part of the bay! Very nice to see these large baleen whales back in Skjálfandi bay (last time we saw them was on Monday).
One of the two humpbacks was the one that had already been in the bay last weekend, but the other one was a new individual.
In the afternoon the tour started very well with a big number of dolphins (at least 30) in the eastern part of the bay, but unfortunately we were not able to find the two humpback whales from the morning again.
Fingers crossed that they are back again tomorrow morning! 🙂
