Agnés Fournier: Unexpected sailing opportunity
Having to leave Husavik this summer, was very hard for me, I had planned to leave a lot later. I was expecting having a lot more good times with my North Sailing Crew. After sailing for 2 months on Haukur and on Hildur my captain called me with a very interesting offer.
The sailing festival had just ended and Activ and Dagmar Aaen were waiting so that the ice situation in Greenland would get better. Two people on the Dagmar Aaen had to cancel the trip one day before departure so they had to find two new crewmembers. Captain Heimir walked with me to their ship and presented me to Arved Fuchs. We talked a little bit and he shook my hand, welcoming me aboard.
I was very excited and didn’t know how to thank Heimir for giving me the chance of going with them. I already knew that it would be a great experience for a new sailor and I couldn’t wait to learn as much as possible.
In 24 hours, I packed all of my things, did every last minute things I had to do and spent part of the night with friends and coworkers in Gamli Baukur. The day after was the hardest one, having to say bye to every one and knowing I wouldn’t see most of them until next season. My summer was perfect; whales (a lot of whales), good time with people I love, great sailing, and a new festival had just started (hopefully it will be a tradition from now on). I waved good bye to all of them and started to get to know my new crew for the next 5 weeks to go.
