Nice conditions and plenty of whales
We couldn’t go out yesterday as there was far too strong wind to go out and search for the whales. So when I went out with captain Már this morning, we didn’t really know what to expect.
It is always interesting to go out the first time again after a bad weather period. And there was obviously a lot of life in the bay this morning: We had just left the harbour and had been sailing for around 15 minutes, when we encountered two minke whales. Of course we spent some time with them before we continued sailing west and only about 20 minutes later, we found a third minke whale. But that one was a bit difficult to follow so we decided to head further out. Far out, in the northwestern part of the bay, we were searching for the bigger whales that had been in the area few days ago. Even though we didn‘t find any blue or humpback whales, we saw another minke whale that we could watch for a short while.
On the way back to Húsavík, we were already quite close to the harbour, we ran into two groups of really nice white-beaked dolphins and in the same area we also saw the two minke whales again, this time much closer than before. So all in all a very successful tour with four minke whales and around 40-50 dolphins.
