Dull or Magnificent
Last days have been strange. Some days have been quiet, not many whales, and if we find some they are hard to follow. Other days have been more than great, tons of dolphins, minkes, humpbacks and even rumours of bottlenose whales. But yesterday was the strangest.
Me and captain Hreiðar went out for the 13:30 trip. It did not look too good, the weather was wet and foggy and the sea rather rough. On top of that we had heard reports from other boats and there had been real troubles finding whales. But on we went. More than two hours into the trip we still had not seen anything. We were just about to loose hope when Hreiðar finally saw a Humpback going down for a deep dive not too far from the boat. So we waited. And man, did that pay off! Several minutes later the whales surfaced very close to us for everybody to see. For the guide, these are the best moments, when you can see the look on the people faces, plus the feeling of relief when the disapointing trip turns out to be successful. On top of all this the Humpback did breach once, very close to us, leaving everyone onboard stunned and happy.
For me, the season is coming to an end, last two trips tomorrow.
