Activ heads off to Greenland

On last wednesday, 3rd of august, the magestic Activ continued her journey up to Northeast Greenland. Activ is on an „expedition driven by sails, science and art“. Follow at www.ekspeditionen2011.dk

In 2008 Activ sailed up to Húsavík on another expedition to Northeast Greenland. North Sailing got to know her captain, Jonas Bergsøe and his crew and have kept in contact since then.

And now in the 2011 expedition, Activ honoured the Sail Húsavík Festival by joining before continuing the journey to East Greenland. For vessels going from north Europe to East Greenland, Húsavík is a perfect destination on the way. The expedition goes to northeastern Greenland fjord system and the nature reserve around Ella Ø, King Oscar and Emperor Franz Joseph Fjord.

Activ has been waiting for the ice situation to improve in Greenland, the ice cap has been thick and covering the opening of the fjord systems. We hope the situation is improving so Activ will be able to complete her missions.

On board are prominent scientists, artists and filmmakers who will be measuring, weighing, drawing and exploring areas that seldom are visited and we don‘t know too much about. Like they say themselves, „it will get us closer to understanding the origin of life, our own role in this amazing world and not least our own possible fate“.

The North Sailing team already misses the beautiful sight of Activ in the Húsavík harbour and not least do we miss the captain and crew and we wish them all the best of luck on their adventures. Cheers mates!
