Again with North Sailing – four years later!
This morning we went out on our boat Garðar, with around 50 passengers. As our guide Huld, asked onboard if anyone had been whale watching before, one passenger stepped forward and told that she had. What catched our guide´s interest, was that she had been here before, with North Sailing almost four years ago.
We asked Willemien from the Netherlands what brought her back:
“Four years ago I was working here in Iceland, in Reykjavík, for five months and I wanted to go whale watching. All the people I asked told me that Húsavík was the best place to spot whales, so I decided to come here,” she tells.
It was in August 2007 and at the time she arrived in Húsavík, it was stormy and no whale watching tours operating at the moment, due to bad weather. She then came back in late September, after she had stopped working and finally managed to go out on a whale watching tour.
“We saw Minke whales, it was late summer and the Humpbacks had left the bay.”

And now, almost four years later, she is back in Húsavík with her mother, on a 12 day trip around Iceland.
“I always wanted to see Humpbacks too, so we decided to come back here”, she says and adds: “..and we did! We had a great Humpback show this morning, it was just great!”
Heading to the south of Iceland, Willemien and her mother report that Iceland is a beautiful country. “Everywhere you look, there is something that amazes!” they say.

And guide Huld agrees with them. What a privilegde to live in a country with such a nature and wildlife!
