Haukur's first trips
Today we started going on the tours Whales, puffins & sails, NS-2. We went on two trips, at 9:30 and at 16:30, and these were the first two NS-2 trips of this summer.
We went our on our schooner Haukur with some 25 passengers in the morning and headed directly to Lundey (Puffin Island) to visit the puffins. There were hundreds and hundreds of them both flying around the island and also sitting on the surface around it.
Later in the tour we watched a humpback whale for a while before we headed west and came across a blue whale, witch unfortunately we never managed to get close to, but watched it blow powerfully from the distance. It was swimming very fast and constantly changing directions so it was almost impossible to keep up!
We hoisted some sails on our way back to Húsavík and of course the passengers were ready to help me and deckhand Kristófer, and then we rewarded them with some nice hot chocolate with a twist 🙂
The second tour was also great, we found all in all 4 humpback whales, 3 of them wich we got to see close up. The weather was really weird this afternoon, and not in a bad way. It was just always changing, every 10 minutes and we got to see some magnificent lights in the sky, clouds and rainbows.
I am happy to be sailing again on schooner Haukur and it was a good first day!
