Beautiful first tour with “Bjössi Sör”
Today was the first time this season that our boat “Bjössi Sör” was used for whale watching.
The crew of “Knörrinn” went out at 9:00 this morning with a group of school children from Húsavík and when we went out on Bjössi Sör for the 10:00 whale watching tour we had beautiful weather conditions: the sun was shining and the sea was calm. We got a call from “Knörrinn” that they had found two humpback whales in the southwestern part of the bay so we went over there and spent some time with these two humpbacks. They were often coming up simultaneously and with the snowy mountains in the background, it was a beautiful sight.
After a while we left the humpbacks and sailed a bit further north, searching for something else. And it didn’t take us long until we came to an area with a lot of seabirds, which is often a sign that there is a lot of food close to the surface. And when there is food, there might also be some whales around…..
Soon we spotted two minke whales and also a very nice group of white-beaked dolphins, that was hunting for fish in the same area. Sometimes we even couldn’t decide where to watch: The dolphins were coming up on one side of the boat, and on the other side one (or even both) minke whale(s) surfaced.
A very beautiful tour in nice weather conditions and a good start for Bjössi Sör into the new whale watching season.
