The season's first tour
North Sailing’s 17th season started today when captain Hrólfur and guide Nils went out on Knörrinn with 19 passengers, mostly tourist but also locals.
It was raining when we boarded, grey and cloudy when we sailed out of the harbor and a little bit sunny when we returned after more than 3 hours out in the bay. A typical icelandic day!
Even though we scanned pretty much the whole bay, from south to north – from the east to the west, we never managed to find the big marine mammals we were hoping to see. However, close to the mountains of Kinn we came across a large group of the little and extremely cute harbor porpoises. Everywhere we looked there they were and it was pretty amazing to watch them!
It was very, very cold today and the passengers were delighted when given hot chocolate and cinnamon buns on the way back to Húsavík to enjoy in the sunshine. A nice afternoon spent in Skjálfandi Bay!
