A humpback whale in the harbor of Husavik
It‘s very rare, even on high season to see a whale having a good time inside a port.
But today, the 30th of march, there was a humpback whale swimming inside the harbor of Husavik. Maybe he was reminding us, that North Sailing will start the whale watching season just in two days, friday the 1st of april.
The weather was extremly good today, almost no wind and temperatures went up to 3 °C. Sun was shining and the forcast for the next days seams to be good as well.
Haukur Hauksson was luckily well prepared, so he had his camera with him, when the humpback whale appeared in the harbor. Haukur took this beautiful shots of the „hump“ infront of North Sailings shipyard and the Schooner Haukur laying on ancor in the outer harbor of Husavik.
It was a big surprise and pleasure for all of us to see this curious humpback whale and a good sign for the beginning of North Sailings Whale Watching season 2011.
Thanks to Haukur that he kindly lends us his photos.

Changing direction in the harbor…
… but staying there for about 15 minutes.
Then whale infront of schooner Haukur with the Creek Mountains in the background
Than it was turning south and was swimming in shallow waters…
… before this beautiful whale took a longer dive and went out into Skjálfandi Bay.
