Náttfari doomed to the Shipyard
On June 19, the engine of Náttfari, one of North Sailing‘s most important boats broke down.
This was very unfortunate for the summer operation and due to the seriousnes of the engine failure, the decision was taken to postpone it‘s repair until autumn.
Immense manpower was therefore put into finishing restauration of oak boat Garðar and schooner Hildur, which within a month of hard work, became the newest additions to the company‘s fleet.
To meet the demand of the increasing passenger flow, North Sailing chartered the whale watching boat Steini Vigg from Siglufjörður to somehow cover the loss of Náttfari. This action was successful and helped finishing the busy season, of course with extraordinay help and professionalism of North Sailing‘s experienced staff.
During November, Náttfari will be repaired and a quality engine from Scania will be installed, replacing the old Cummins engine. Restauration will of course also be done on the whole boat and the winter time is ideal for such work.
