After the storm
After three days without sailing, here we are again doing our best to find the whales. The last three days were really windy (21m/s), rainy and cold, so we couldn‘t go out. Today the day was still cold, autumn has arrived but it was sunny and the waves were still high, but they couldn‘t stop us from sailing. Today, the crew was Hrólfur, the captain, Christian, the guide and Teresa, the deckhand.
During the first hour of the first trip, we could see the new snow over Víknarfjöll Mountains across the bay, all the peaks were white. Finding the whales was difficult this time, due to the swell and of course, after three days of storm you have no idea where the whales are, everything is changed in the bay.
So we went to the western part of the bay, where we usually find the whales, we know that they like that area. After a while we moved to the middle of the bay and when suddenly, a Minke Whale appeared very close to the boat, everybody could hear the powerful spout of the whale, and then it came up close to us two more times before a deep diving.
After that we saw it several times before it was time for us to head back to Húsavík, so at least we were very lucky and we came back to Húsavík smiling.
