Nice day in the bay!
Today’s tours are a good example of how different each trip out into the bay is.
We return from the 10:00 tour around 13:00 and then we head back out there half an hour later.. but a lot can change in those minutes.
In the morning tour we came across a minke whale just after 15 minutes and during the whole tour (2,5 hours) we were observing minke whales, 4 individuals. All of them came close to boat and were a bit curious about us. That is the best way to watch whales, when it’s obvious that they are comfortable enough to approach the boat!
In the afternoon trip at 13:30 the bay that was so full of life in the morning looked deserted. We cruised around for two hours without finding anything.
Then, close to Creek Mountains we found a group of harbour porpoises which usually keep their distance from boats but these particular ones came extremely close to us and we got a good look at them for a while.
In the southern part of the bay we then finally found two minke whales and managed to see them very well before all of a sudden they mysteriously disappeared!
Those two tours were both fantastic, good and calm weather in the bay and whales around, but very different.
