Silver Cloud in Húsavík
It was very busy this morning here in Húsavík, as the cruiseship Silver Cloud is paying us a visit. I went out together with captain Óli and assistant guide Oddvar on a special trip with 35 cruiseship passengers on our sailing schooner Haukur.
The weather was beautiful, conditions were almost perfect and it did not take us long to find a minke whale. We could watch it for quite a long time, and it was often surfacing very calm quite close to the boat.
Later on, we went a bit further out in hope to find something else. West of Lundey we found a small group of harbour porpoises, which were also very nice to watch and came quite close to the boat several times, which is rather unusual for these small whales. We then took a short look at Lundey, the Puffin Island, to see if there were any birds around. But, not surprising, most of the puffins had already left. After three and a half hours we came back into the harbour, where the shuttle boat was already waiting to bring our satisfied passengers back to their ship.
