Minkes and dolphins found in spite of the fog
Today started off really foggy. But we never let the weather bring us down and left, well not bright, but early from harbour full of determination to find the whales.
The bay is crawling with fish and when there is fish the minkes are never far off. Today it would have been hard to be unsuccessful since wherever you looked you seemed to see a minke whale. In only one trip we saw three minke whales up close and several others in the distance. Some tours were also lucky enough to spot white beaked dolphins. We both spotted a pod of adults along with some adolescent dolphins and another small pod of only six animals; Three adults which each had a very young calf close by its side. They came very close to the boat, despite the young ones, so that everyone on board could see the calves which were only a few days old.
The fog cleared up as the day grew on and by midday we had sunlight. A very pleasant day to go whale watching.
