Minkes, dolphins and a great number of birds
Today was a fine day out on sea. Much better weather than we last week and plenty of life in the bay. The 5 o’clock trip found a minke whale even before they left the harbour, the whale circling closer to the town beach before heading back out to sea. A few more minke whales were spotted today and the white beaked dolphins also gave us a show, letting us follow them for a long time.
The birds were also quite busy today. Towards the south of the bay we saw a great big gathering of birds, including puffins, fulmar, arctic skuas, great skuas, arctic terns and kittiwake, which has been scarce this season. This diverse birdlife, accompanied with the whales, gives a great example of life on sea in Iceland.
