A lot of minke whales and white-beaked dolphins
The minke whales have been playing the main role in Skjalfandi Bay for the last few days, but the white-beaked dolphins have been showing up as well.
Two days ago a blue whale was spotted in our evening trip but it had gone out of the bay again the next morning. That tells us that the blue whales are still just outside Skjalfandi Bay and hopefully will be back in the bay before we know it.
I went out at 10:00 today and we were right out side the harbour when the first minke whale of the day was spotted. The minke whales are very curious these days and this one came up very close to the boat and was pretty calm. We experienced the weird smell from the minke whale when it came up to breath, which always brings the crew and the passengers closer to the whales.
Another minke whale came along and two groups of white-beaked dolphins as well. The dolphins were playful as usual and swam under the boat and also leaping out of the water. Always great fun when the white-beaked dolphins show up.
We also spotted some more minke whales on the trip so both the crew and the passengers were delighted with the trip and hopefully it will stay like that for the rest of the season and of course the seasons to come.
