Minkes and dolphins in wonderful weather
I went out on two tours today on trusty old Knörrinn with captain Ólafur and in both of them the weather was absolutely fantastic, and if anything, it only got better as the day progressed. The first tour, at 10:00, we decided to head out close to Lundey, Puffin Island, and as we approached it became clear that the puffins were incredibly active today, with a great number of them flying around the island. Other birdlife was also quite noticeable, and as we headed away from the island, we managed to find a couple of Minke Whales feeding, and the birds with them. We managed to get one of them very close, and it was apparent that it was quite a big one. After that we also found some White-Beaked Dolphins, and with that we headed home, very pleased.
As we went out for our second tour, it was quite clear that other whale watchers were having great success around the same place, and we were greeted with reports of three Minkes as well as more dolphins! We had another great look at a Minke, and headed home in the great weather, wholly satisfied. I don’t think I saw a single passenger dressed in one of our overalls today!
