The whales like the cold apparently!
It was more than just chilly today here in Húsavík. It was extremely cold and the sea was not at its calmest. But the tourists they are not afraid of the cold and for the first time this season we went out on a full Bjössi Sör, with 56 passengers on board and 3 crew members.
The tour didn´t start very well but we sailed for and hour and a half before captain Hrólfur saw a blow far far away. We decided to go and take a look and before long a humpback whale came up close to the boat, it had been a lot closer to us then we thought. We got a good look at this humpback whale before we headed back to the harbour.
On the second tour we had not quite so many passengers but we saw more whales than in the morning trip. In total we found 3 minke whales, two of them who were feeding close to Creek Mountains. And it was amazing to watch them as they were feeding on the surface and when doing that they make quite some noise. They break the surface so determainly and you can actually see their spout, which is not so common.
It was a good whale watching day in spite of the cold and Bjössi Sör returned to the harbour with happy passengers.
