Hard-to-find minkes
This morning was a bit rough. The whales were nowhere to be found at first, not close to the mountains like they were yesterday. We went out far north on the 10 o‘clock trip to try and scout the entire bay and eventually we saw whales far in the distance. When we arrived we found two minke whales which were luckily enough very friendly, surfacing a lot and not afraid to come close to the boats. They did not really show us any attention but they did not seem to mind us taking a look at them.
The captain, Hörður, and I are both fairly sure that we saw a humpback further out in the distance; We saw at least a third whale that moved much slower and seemed to lift its fluke out of the water. Hopefully the humpbacks are out there and will soon grace us with their presence but until then we will settle for the beautiful minke whales any day!
