A difficult day
This day was definitely not the best I've had. I did three tours today and I was really close to seeing nothing on all the trips but somehow managed to get luck in the end of all of them. On the first tour me and captain Hreiðar had been sailing for almost two hours when I finally spotted a black back. Then we waited and waited and nothing happened so we had to give up on it. But then we heard from another boat that they had seen a minke whale so we went there and it was actually really nice. Staying with us the whole time and never diving for long.
On the second tour I was even more nervous than on the first one. We had been out for almost three hours before we finally had luck with one minke whale so everybody was satisfied in the end. On this tour the conditions to search were actually really bad, windy and sunny and really easy for whales to hide in between waves. Unfortunately two of our other boats never managaed to find anything so they had to go back to the harbour without luck. Finding a minke whale in these conditions is pretty much like searching for a needle in a haystack.
So by my third tour I was getting really pessimistic and quite rightly, we didn't see anything but two dolphins. But that's a lot better than nothing though. I hope tomorrow will be better.
