A lot of minke whales in Skjálfandi Bay
I‘ve been on two tours today, at 10:00 this morning and then again at 13:30, and were both of them very successful.
In the morning we spotted several minke whales close to the mountains in the western part of the bay after an hour of searching. It is sometimes very stressful in the beginning of the tours when you are looking over the bay and seeing absolutely nothing ahead. There were almost no birds around us and the bay looking quite empty. But then we came across these lovely minkes and then later on we found, what I thought at first was another minke whale, but was instead the bottlenose whale that has been in the bay for some days now and had been seen breaching earlier this morning! In my second tour we managed to get a good and close look at 2 different minke whales in the same spot, in the south-western part of the bay. The weather has been great today, the sea calm and the sun shining.. can‘t get better than this! Now I‘m going out again in the evening trip and I can only hope that the success will continue tonight!Halla Marín, guide.
