Two blue whales and a breaching minke whale
The Blue whale is the largest animal ever to live on the planet.
It was a perfect day in the bay today. Not only was the sun shining and the wind calm but we spotted in total 5 species during the day: harbour porpoises, white-beaked dolphins, minke whales, humpback whales and blue whales!
The humpback whales have been absent for a while now and one was spotted this morning and then two in the afternoon. In the afternoon we also heard from the schooner which was on it's way home from the 3 day sailing that they had seen blue whales that were heading into the bay. We didn't dare to hope that they would come into the bay right away but on the evening trip they came. We saw the spouts from quite a distance and it took some time to reach them but it was great when we finally did. There were two of them, with some distance between them but we managed to see both of them quite close, once we had one right next to the boat. I'm always as amazed to see these enormus creatures.
Then, as it hadn't been a great tour already, we saw a breaching minke whale on the way back to the harbour. Previously on the tour we had also seen a group of dolphins.
I hope the blue whales will stick around.
