One of those beautiful evenings
It was my first evening tour tonight and I really like the evenings. Normally the wind is quiet in the evening in Skjálfandi bay and when the bay is quiet it is easier for me to find whales. A still surface is the perfect conditions to find whales. And to find whales was not a problem on this tour. We saw minke whales almost wherever we went. Also we spotted two groups of white beaked dolphins, one we saw close, coming under the boat and really relaxed around the boat. Some of the minke whales we also saw close to the boat, I would guess three of them but the others we saw a bit further away. I noticed that one of them had a small cut in the dorsal fin and I think I have actually seen that one before.
But like one of my passengers said, It wouldn't have mattered if we didn't see whales, the surroundings are enough. And on an evening trip like this that's right. The whales are an absolute bonus. Totally calm bay and the surface like a mirror. The evening sun, orange-pink, peeking out between the clouds. Absolutley perfect in my opinion.
And… any moment now the blue whales might arrive! In the last years they have been arriving into the bay at the 3rd or 4th of June. Let's hope that will be the case this year as well.
