A breaching minke whale!
Exactly a week ago we reported a minke whale that breached over 40 times. This morning it happend again. We were heading home, had already had our hot chocolate when we saw the minke whale jumping in the distance. It had jumped several times before we reached it and once we were closer it stopped and came up a few times normally just breathing and relaxing. Then it started again and at least 2 or 3 times it breached right next to the boat. It was truly amazing. And as I mentioned it was at the end of the tour so already we had had success with one minke whale and a few dolphins. We also saw dolphins in the afternoon yesterday and that was my first time in quite a while to see dolphins so that was really nice.
I also went out on the 13:30 trip and by then it was getting a bit windy from northwest so the conditions were a bit tough. But we managed to spot two minke whales and one of them breached two times! I don't ever remember seeing a minke whale breach two times in a row. I don't know what's going on with them.
On both tours we saw lots and lots of birds feeding, arctic terns, fulmars, gannets, arctic skuas and even one great skuas. We also went close to Puffin Island and on the second trip there were so many puffins there that the sky was nearly black. Definitely a great day!
