3 minke whales, 3 humpback whales!
Jonni's fluke
I finally went whale watching today but I haven't been out for a week now. I really enjoyed it. There was practically no wind so the bay was mirror-like and therfore it was easy to spot the whales from far away. We had only been sailing for about 10 minutes when we saw two minke whales in the distance and just a few minutes later a huge minke whale popped up right next to the boat. We got very close as the minke whale was quite relaxed. So total of three minke whales were out there but also three humpback whales! Náttfari, with a large group of Icelanders on board, had already spotted one humpback whale when we left the harbour so we went there. It turned out to be the same humpback whale that has been here for probably around a week. We have named him "Jonni". When we had spent some time with Jonni we still had two hours to spend so we started to sail a bit east to check if there was more life in the bay. And indeed we found two more humpback whales that were feeding along with many many puffins and arctic terns. Even one gannet was there and it was pretty funny when the gannet started to circle around the boat, as if it was simply putting on a show for us.
Pictures are, like somtimes before, from Christian the 1st.
