A group of orcas today!
After a 4 days break from whale watching because of bad weather we had a brilliant tour today! The weather was perfect, calm and quite warm. We had only been out for about half an hour when we saw a group of white beaked dolphins that were playing around the boat. While we were looking at the dolphins Þórunn, the engineer, saw something black in the distance. We headed towards it and found to our surprise a group of orcas (killer whales).
The group was scattered around, we counted 6-8 individuals. One was really big, with a huge dorsal fin, but the others seemed to be younger. We managed to get really close to some of them. It is only the second time in five years that I see killer whales so I was very happy. The group seemed to be feeding and there was a large group of birds feeding there also.
Here is one of the pictures I took on the tour.
